sunday snapshots - mom's in the frame too!

I wrote recently about how photography was important to me not just as a hobby but as a mom too, and a big part of that was making sure I was actually in the family photo album this year! These photos are my very first attempt at getting in the frame with my son.

They are not perfect. I know that. From a photographer's point of view, the white balance is a little off (due to my custom setting my white balance and then the weather changing), there is a patch of light on the left of the photo from where the sun was shining directly in (same reason!) , and in some of the shots one of us is a little out of focus - to name but a few misdemeanours - but I like them because I am in them, with my son.  From that point of view, they worked out perfectly.

All of these were taken with my Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 , at F5.6, shutter speed 1/200 , and ISO 1000.  There are a few things I'd change next time around (I'd brush my hair for a start) but all in all, I'm happy enough for a first attempt! The Wireless Timer Remote I bought for $22 has been such a good investment - for the price, I really can't fault it.  I've a feeling you can expect to see more of me appearing on the blog soon!

love these! I am all about "trying" to get in more pictures this year instead of just being behind the camera too. Thanks for sharing these!

These are so great! I think being in the photos is so so important. I love the props and the simple background/setup!

Love these! And love that you're in them! I don't have any pics with my kids! I'm always the one taking them!

I stumbled upon your blog looking for photoshop templates and became addicted to your site! Thank you! For the self portraits and the photos above, where is the remote? howd you conceal it? I have trouble with remote. If I don't aim it directly towards the infrared, the shutter doesn't go. I try to have my husband cleverly put his arm around me and point it. We have had to get quite creative!

Hi Cindy - glad you found me! I used a timer remote which you set to take photos before you get behind the camera - say 20 photos every three seconds - and off it goes! You don't need to point at the camera which is brilliant - you can read more about it here.....http://www.livesnaplove.com/2013/03/got-myself-new-toy.html The one I have is pretty cheap too although there are more expensive versions out there.
